Before the small presentation, I only had an idea as to which artist I wanted to look into, Hannah Hoch, mainly for her obscure creativity in recreation, taking snippings of magazines and changing their meaning. She was a part of the Dadaist society, from which Surrealism was born - of which I am particularly interested in and am currently aiming my Final Project towards.
The presentation pushed me to decide on a particular image to study, of which my peers/tutor pointed me into helpful directions to go to - critics/essayists to study (Dawn Ades, as an example). In the end I have chosen the image Dompteuse, for its ambiguity and paradoxical meanings make for an interesting circle of issues to study.
